What is your educational background?
I have a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from California University of Pennsylvania. I have an extensive background in education and behavioral health, having worked in education with students from ages 6 weeks to adulthood, and doing behavioral therapy as a Therapeutic Staff Support for elementary school-aged students. Here at PIHT, I teach general education courses. My classes include Student Success Strategies, Keyboarding, Medical Math, and Career Preparation. I love that I have the opportunity to teach my students from their first day of classes in SSS through to their last day of classes in Career Preparation. It is so rewarding to watch them grow and become the professional that they’ve trained to be throughout their time here. I always strive to help them with any of their problems throughout their time with us, and even after they’ve graduated, to ensure that they’re successful in their schooling and careers.
Why did you choose to work at PIHT?
I love working for PIHT because of the small, family-style environment that we provide for our students. I have seen so many students who have gone to multiple universities and kept failing to succeed at those “big schools,” who have come here and succeeded with flying colors. I truly believe that their success has a lot to do with the fact that they’re in a smaller school whose staff knows the names and personal characteristics of each and every one of the students who attend our school. We are there for them through every single one of their ups and downs in their day-to-day lives; we know whenever our students need additional attention and assistance, and every person who works here truly cares and “jumps right in” and offers that student the extra attention and assistance they need to make it through that day, class, or module, whatever the case may be. That kind of hands-on love and teaching isn’t found at just any school, but it is the heart of this one.
My favorite part of working for PIHT is my work family. I work with a very special group of women. Everyone is always willing to help one another with anything, and we always strive to do our best for each other, and for all of our students.
What, or who motivates you and why?
I am motivated by my family. My husband and I always strive to better our lives a little bit every day. teaching can be at times, it’s always worth it whenever you see your students have that “AHA” moment! My long-term career goals are to continue teaching, and hopefully take on some additional classes. I love what I do, and don’t think I’d be happy if I were not in a classroom.
What is something interesting about yourself that not many people know?
Something interesting about myself is that I absolutely love to travel. I have been to almost every state in the U.S., as well as Canada and multiple cities in Italy. If it were financially possible, I would probably travel somewhere every single weekend. I just can’t get enough of learning about different cultures and people’s ways of doing things, seeing awe-inspiring natural landscapes and learning about myself through these processes.
